The way to get a good setting for a game to use it with the Flightstick Pro or Jetstick is not always obvious. Here are some simple rules we have learned from making the settings that come with the sticks.
Take a look at the controls a game offers before making a setting. If the game supports only control via keyboard just set the stick into the key mode and put the controlling keys on the directions and buttons. For the Flightstick Pro often it is nice to use the eight way switch to control such games.
When the game is primarily controlled with the mouse you should check out it's behaviour. If you have to move the mouse back to some kind of neutral position to stop a movement or turning motion (like in a flight simulator) the best bet is to try absolute mode. The same is true for games where you position or move some object on the screen by moving the mouse to a certain position (like the various brick out games).
Use relative mode for games where the motion stops when you just stop moving the mouse without having to return it to some neutral position.
Absolute mode may prove a bit tricky to exploit optimal. Some games expect the mouse cursor to stay in some area smaller than the full screen. If you expect a behaviour where the properly centered joystick causes the game to move in some direction it is likely that you have run into this problem. Try to restrict the cursor area to the Classic screen size first (see manual for details). If this does not correct the problem, try changing the position of the cursor area. Sometimes it takes several tries until you get a good setting.
2. Remarks on the included settings
The included settings require that the standard control keys for the games have not been reprogrammed. If you have changed the standard settings for the games controls, either reset them to original or change the settings of the joystick.
Some details on settings:
F/A-18 Hornet
To use Hornet with the Flightstick Pro or Jetstick set Hornet preferences to control by the Gravis Mousestickâ„¢
Vette
The included setting controls Vette via the keyboard emulation. You may try switching to absolute mode, though in absolute mode Vette has problems with some monitor configurations.
Microsoft Flight Simulator
It seems like Microsoft has some funny ideas about how joysticks work… Due to the way the MSFS handles the joystick it is necessary to recenter the controls frequently by pressing "5" on the number pad.
